On the occasion of the World Meeting of Families (WMOF), which was celebrated by the Universal Church, the Sindhudurg Diocesan Family Commission organised a celebration from 22 to 26 June 2022.
The parishes were invited to join in the liturgical celebration in their respective parishes. The families were invited to recite the devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on 24 June 2022 and participate in the prayer service that was organised by the CCBI from the tomb of St. Devasahayam Pillai in Tamil Nadu. All the faithful were asked to recite a rosary on 25 June 2022 in their respective homes.
The parishes conducted liturgy based on the theme of WMOF on 26th June 2022. A special meeting was organised at the diocesan level on 25th and 26th June 2022 at Navsarni Kendra, Sawantwadi. There were more than 50 participants from ten different parishes. The missionary families for Christ (MFC), the only Ecclesial family movement in the Diocese of Sindhudurg also participated in the meeting.
Bishop Alwyn Barreto was present at the inauguration and he encouraged the families to become the presence of God since the families were all called to be the domestic church. There were four catechesis sessions organised based on the themes proposed by the congregation for family, life and the laity. Each of the sessions was followed by a group and panel discussion. These sessions were conducted by Fr. Amit D’Britto OFM. Cap and Fr. Alex D’Mello.
The families prayed together with the Rosary and participated in the Holy Eucharist. The families were given a certificate of participation and a rosary to mark as the missionary families in the diocese. The core group was formed to take the family movement to all the parishes in the diocese.
