The Sawantwadi Catholic Association Christmas Float Competition 2019 was organised in Sawantwadi on 23 December, which saw the participation of multiple communities. The theme for the competition was ‘God became man and lived amongst us’. The event was organised and sponsored by the Sawantwadi Catholic Association.
This year’s theme depicted the current realities of our society; such as women atrocities, the recent deluge, family problems, etc. All the floats moved around Sawantwadi in a procession to spread the Christmas message.
The first prize was awarded to Nirwade; the second prize to New Khaskilwada and the third prize went to Tallkambha. The award for the best Santa Claus was given to Kolgaon. Fr Alex Dmello and Sr Jama Rodrigues were the judges.
The event was witnessed by many faithful, including priests and nuns. Mr Peter Dantas, President of Sawantwadi Catholic Association, gave the message and congratulated the participants.
Fr. Salvador Fernandes, Rector of the Cathedral, applauded all the people and thanked the Sawantwadi Catholic Association for their organisational efforts and financial support.
