Little Sisters of the Poor setup new Home for the Aged

On 25th October 2021, Bishop. Alwyn Barreto inaugurated the Home for Aged at Nirwade, Sawantwadi. The house is named St. Gonsalo Garcia Home and it is managed by the Little Sisters of the Poor, which is specifically meant for the elderly poor. The congregation also celebrated the 229th birth anniversary of their founder, Sr Jean Jugan. The house was donated by Mr & Mrs Shashikant Pednekar and his family.

The inauguration was graced with the presence of Mr Dipak Kesarkar –  MLA, and Sarpanch of Nirwade. Priests and religious women along with lay faithful took part in the inaugural Mass of the house.
For the Little Sisters of the Poor in India, this house is the 15th; their congregation has their presence in more than 30 countries. Sr. Mary Clara, Provincial of their Congregation, expressed, in a nutshell, the work carried out in society by the congregation. Sr. Anita Rose, Superior of the House at Nirwade delivered the vote of thanks.
