Bishop Alwyn’s Christmas Message

Today, our world has slowed down because of the COVID-19 pandemic; in some major cities across our country and the world, curfews are in place. But as C.S Lewis once said: “Once in our world, a stable had something in it that was bigger than our whole world.”

Yes, my dear sisters and brothers, on this holy night, we remember that the great distance between God and us no longer exists, because God-is-with-us; the face of God is revealed to us through the birth of Jesus Christ.

Nothing can be greater than his birth, because his birth is not like any other human birth; it is the birth of God becoming flesh to dwell amongst us – to become one with the human race- with you and me. And all of this is because God loves us and it is also the manifestation of humility.

And Jesus Christ our God triumphs over every illness and every pandemic. He is the source of love, joy, peace, goodness; and anything that our world can offer, Jesus can offer much more than that, because He is much greater than our world.

Jesus Christ is also the light which breaks out the darkness which grips our world in fear, anxiety and despair. Let the light of Jesus also bring us that warmth and comfort, which our souls desire.

During this Christmas season, I encourage you to contemplate on this great revelation and manifestations of God’s love and humility. And as the light of God penetrates our lives and souls, may we reflect that same light on all those around us and spread the joy of Christmas.

I wish you and your families a joyous Christmas.

In Christ,

+Bishop Alwyn Barreto
